Job Description

Our client is a medium size civil construction company with work fronts throughout Northern Australia.

The core competencies include earthworks and drainage, concrete construction, structural erection and building works, project management and safety management within the construction and mining industries.

We are searching for an estimator to join the team, and will entertain anyone from a junior through to senior estimator.

About the role

You will be responsible for the preparation, control, review and release of tenders within required timeframes. This position involves liaison with engineers and related cost control and with an understanding of potential variation requirements of the projects being tendered.

The key responsibilities for the role are

  • Quantity take offs from plans to ensure correc quantities are included in tenders,
  • Obtain material costs and quotations from suppliers and subcontractors,
  • Prepare and submit accurate tenders based on first principles,
  • Querying any tender discrepancies with consultants and clients,
  • Research previous contracts to obtain production rate estimates and identify cost trends.

To be considered for this position at a junior level, you must have proven skills in the following areas

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications, or a minimum of 5 years experience from a civils trade background combined with 1-2 furrther years experience in a similar estimating role
  • Cost control and budgeting and the programming of works
  • Estimating software experience
  • Analysing, evaluating and interpreting a range of complex and technical documents, including relevant regulatory, legislative, and licensing requirements, codes and standards, plans, drawings and specifications, invitations to tender, contracts and procurement reports.
  • High level of understanding of Safety, Health and Environment to ensure safe delivery of projects and maintain a culture of safety and health
  • To be considered at a more senior level you will also need to have at least 5 years experience as a civil estimator, together with an understanding of potential variation requirements of the projects being tendered (remote areas and mining).
